1970s B3 'WASSILY' CHAIR DESIGNED BY MARCEL BREUER FOR GAVINA ITALY
An authentic 1970s Wassily Chair by Gavina, showcasing the rich character that only decades of use can create. Designed by Marcel Breuer in 1925, the Wassily remains one of the defining works of modernist furniture design, celebrated for its pioneering use of tubular steel and its enduring architectural form.
This example features its original dark brown leather sling upholstery, beautifully softened over time with a warm, even patina that highlights the chair's history and authenticity. The leather displays the natural creasing, tonal variation and wear expected of a well-preserved vintage piece, giving it a depth and character impossible to replicate in new production. The polished tubular steel frame provides a striking contrast to the aged leather, creating a timeless balance of industrial precision and warmth. There has been a professional repair to one of the side slings which is hardly noticeable and displayed in images.
Produced by Gavina prior to the company's acquisition by Knoll, this chair represents an important period in the history of Italian modern furniture manufacturing and is highly regarded by collectors for its craftsmanship and historical significance.
An exceptional addition to both contemporary and period interiors, this vintage Wassily Chair is equally suited as a statement lounge chair or as a collectible design icon.
