About the designer
Noomi Backhausen (born 1938, Denmark) is a Danish textile and furniture designer celebrated for her vibrant use of colour, graphic clarity, and modernist sensibility. Trained at the Danish School of Arts and Crafts, she emerged in the 1960s as part of a generation that helped redefine Scandinavian design through bolder, more expressive textiles.
Backhausen worked extensively with leading Nordic manufacturers and played a key role in bringing contemporary pattern and colour into Danish interiors. Her work is held in several museum collections and remains influential for its confident departure from the restraint traditionally associated with Scandinavian modernism.
