ABOUT THE DESIGNER

Willy Rizzo (1928–2013) was an influential Italian photographer and furniture designer, celebrated for his captivating portraits of celebrities and his innovative furniture creations. Born in Paris, Rizzo began his photography career at the age of 12 and gained prominence as a photojournalist in the 1940s and 1950s. He covered significant events such as the Nuremberg Trials and the French Indochina War, and his work appeared in prestigious publications like Paris Match, Life, and Vogue.

Rizzo became renowned for his striking portraits of icons including Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, and Salvador Dalí, capturing the essence of mid-20th-century glamour. In 1966, he transitioned into furniture design after creating pieces for his own home. His designs, characterized by clean lines and a blend of modernist influences, quickly gained popularity among celebrities and the elite.

Rizzo established a production facility near Rome in 1968, where he crafted high-quality furniture using materials like marble and stainless steel. His work remains sought after, with pieces featured in various museum collections. The Willy Rizzo Studio in Paris continues to honor his legacy through exhibitions and projects, ensuring that his contributions to photography and design are celebrated for generations to come.
