ABOUT THE DESIGNER

Giancarlo Piretti, born in 1940 in Bologna, Italy, is a distinguished interior and industrial designer known for his innovative contributions to furniture design. He studied drawing at the Art Institute of Bologna, where he later taught Interior Design. Piretti's career has been marked by a commitment to creativity and functionality, leading him to create several iconic pieces that have become staples in modern design.

One of Piretti's most notable works is the Plia Chair, designed in 1967. This folding and stacking chair is celebrated for its practical yet stylish design, making it a popular choice in various settings. The Plia chair exemplifies Piretti's ability to blend form and function, and it has gained recognition as a significant piece of furniture design in the 20th century. Other important designs include the Alky Chair and the Plona Chair, both showcasing his innovative approach to materials and ergonomics.

Piretti's work has been widely recognized within the design community. In 1988, he unveiled the "Piretti Collection" at Chicago's NeoCon, which received acclaim for its originality and aesthetic appeal. His designs are not only functional but also reflect a deep understanding of user experience, making them timeless additions to any space.

His contributions to design have earned him a place in prestigious collections, including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. The ongoing production of his works, particularly the Plia chair by Anonima Castelli, highlights his lasting influence on contemporary interior design and his ability to create pieces that resonate with both designers and consumers alike.
