'CARWYN' CHAIR DESIGNED BY THOMAS FRAYNE
Thomas Frayne is a Welsh-born joiner and artist based in Sydney, Australia. His practice bridges traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design, specialising in sculptural furniture made from reclaimed and upcycled materials. His work explores the tension between function and form, with each piece carrying a strong narrative presence.
In December, Thomas presented his solo exhibition Cadair Ddu, a collection of eleven chairs inspired by the raw, medieval history of his homeland. Dark, mysterious, and imperfect, the works embody a haunting beauty—functional yet expressive, each chair a bold, sculptural statement. The ‘Carwyn’ chair was a piece from this exhibition and is now available through Alpha Modern.
