A striking example of 1980s Italian design, the Baisity sofa was designed by Antonio Citterio for B&B Italia in 1986.
With its low, elongated profile, generous independent cushions and distinctive cylindrical armrests, the Baisity captures the expressive yet highly functional character of Citterio's early work for B&B Italia. The design balances a relatively restrained structural form with playful geometric details — most notably the projecting tubular armrests in leather.
This example retains its original cognac leather armrests, including the impressed B&B Italia maker's stamp, an important detail that confirms and preserves the character of the original design. The warm, aged leather provides a beautiful contrast to the newly upholstered navy fabric.
The sofa has been professionally reupholstered throughout in Warwick Lautner in Navy. The subtly textured fabric and alternating tonal stripe have been used across the cushions and base, giving the Baisity a strong graphic presence while remaining sympathetic to its original 1980s aesthetic.
The result is a particularly good combination of original Italian design, original leather detailing and contemporary restoration. The deep, generous seating and relaxed proportions make it a highly practical sofa, while the sculptural armrests and low profile give it considerable presence as a design object.
