A beautiful piece of Italian hotel history, this vintage porcelain ashtray was produced by Richard Ginori for the legendary Villa d’Este on Lake Como to commemorate the hotel's centenary in 1973.
Made in Italy from fine white porcelain, the ashtray features the distinctive crowned Villa d’Este heraldic emblem at its centre, surrounded by delicate gilt detailing. Three sculpted cigarette rests interrupt the raised rim, each highlighted with gold, while a fine gilt line follows the perimeter.
The 1873–1973 anniversary makes this a particularly collectible example of Villa d’Este's long association with Italian luxury, hospitality and decorative arts. Richard Ginori produced a number of pieces for prestigious hotels and establishments, and these objects have since become sought-after examples of vintage Italian hotel ephemera.
