A superb Danish mid-century desk designed by Gunnar Nielsen and produced by Tibergaard in Denmark, circa 1960s. Executed in richly figured rosewood, the desk features a generous floating desktop, open rear shelving and two suspended drawer units with three drawers to each side.
The exceptional rosewood veneer is a defining feature, with dramatic grain across the drawer fronts, rear storage compartment and desktop. The dark timber frame provides a strong contrast, while the original recessed handles and key escutcheons add subtle detailing.
Gunnar Nielsen was a Danish designer and furniture maker known particularly for his functional, elegantly proportioned desk designs. Tibergaard produced a range of his furniture during the 1960s, with examples characterised by clean architectural forms, considered storage solutions and high-quality Danish cabinetmaking.
This is an especially impressive example, with the rich rosewood construction giving the otherwise restrained design a warmth and presence that is characteristic of the finest Danish furniture of the period.
It presents in beautiful restored condition with only light patina from recent use - a truly stunning and rare example of Nielsen’s design and Danish craft.
