'UP1' CHAIR BY GAETANO PESCE FOR B&B ITALIA
UP1 Armchair by Gaetano Pesce for B&B Italia
Italy, 1969 — Electric Blue
A bold, sculptural icon from Gaetano Pesce’s revolutionary UP series, the UP1 armchair embodies the designer’s radical vision for biomorphic form and social commentary. Its curvaceous silhouette, elastic comfort, and unmistakable personality have cemented it as one of the most recognisable pieces of 20th-century Italian design.
Originally introduced in 1969 and produced by B&B Italia using pioneering cold-cure polyurethane foam technology, the UP1 offers a compact, anthropomorphic form that envelops the sitter with gentle buoyancy. Presented here in a vivid electric blue stretch fabric, this example brings a contemporary vibrancy to Pesce’s timeless design.
In excellent vintage condition, this piece has been freshly upholstered and retains the original branding underside. Whilst it is in excellent condition it will present some imperfections to the internal foam structure which is non-noticeable.
